How to shake up your career in 2015

1. Set up a Side Business

It doesn't need to be associated to your job and it can be something you fit around other commitments. A side business will give you a great general idea of what it takes to be commercially fruitful: from setting it up to advertising and promoting your products or services, you'll be learning a whole new range of useful business skills.

2. Learn

Learn something which help to explore your business goals.


3. Make a plan

 

Choose what you want to attain, whether this involves advancement, a cross move, or a complete change of track. List the different steps you'll need to take and classify any possible complications.Also involve your line manager in your profession ambitions if you enjoy a good relationship. Maybe you can be allocated career-stretching jobs or work with dissimilar teams. Look for areas where you can make a greater impact in the organization, and sell the business case for working on these to your manager.

4. Get a coach or mentor 

Profession growth doesn't have to be a lonely effort. Both coaches and mentors can be the support and accountability partners you need to make important changes in your working life. As neutral viewers, coaches can both challenge you and serve as a discussion board. Profession coaching is mostly useful if you're facing redundancy or if you realize that your job is not a good fit.

Mentors can also help you in your career growth, as you can learn from someone else's knowledge and access a different system. Look for mentoring systems within your organization or in your industry.

 

5. Meet more people

Interacting is one of the most creative ways to find and cherish important contacts and to hear about job openings. It isn't just a question of attending a formal interacting event, but more of getting out to meet people in your industry (or target industry) at events like sessions and fairs. Ask about businesses' products and services rather than about available jobs and keep in touch after the event.Volunteering is another way to meet people you wouldn't generally, as well as to learn skills or gain experience.

6. Get published

Write a book or a blog to establish yourself as an expert in your field. It's never been easier to set up a blog using Word Press, or to write a book and self-publish it. It's also a good way to increase your expert visibility and industry status, making it more likely that you'll fascinate the attention of people looking for your specific area of knowledge.
